Enterprise 13354 ‘Dreamweaver’£950

$

Bought and restored by me during the winter/spring of 2018.  Unable to sail during the summer due to the drought causing the reservoir to be closed from late June for the rest of the year.  Stored indoors over the winter she eventually made it on to the water 51 years after she was built.  I did research some of the history from The Enterprise Association and discovered the following;

  • Enterprise 13354 was built in May 1968 by D Tyson & Aln Boatyard (I am told that The Aln boatyard was renowned for it’s boat building)
  • The boat was original built for / owned by a member at Tynemouth Sailing Club
  • The last record we have on file for your boat is August 1985 when the boat was sold to a member at St Marys Loch Sailing Club

The reason for the sale is simple.  I am new to sailing and anyone who knows the Enterprise they can be a handful.  I just might be better with something a little more forgiving.  The biggest issue for me after growing into sailing over the past 2 years is the rear main sheet.  I really want a boat with a centre main sheet which I am far more comfortable handling yet I still want a boat that can offer some fun.  I don’t really want to alter the system here that the boat was designed for.

A few points to add;

There are two sets of sails.  The numbered sails are in very good condition.  No damage and despite the last photograph in the sun they are still a lovely colour blue (not faded like some older sails).  The second set are excellent – still crisp and the better set.

There is a spare boom.  The mast was also replaced as the rollers at the head and foot had seized.  You are welcome to the spare mast for parts or repair.

The boat comes with a road trailer and launch trolley (launch trolley slides on to the trailer).  All wheels and tyres are in good condition.

All airbags are in working order.

New jib sheet and main sheet in excellent condition.

Excellent cover – like new.

If there are any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.  Viewing welcome and she is stored near Oldham at Dovestones Sailing Club.

October brings us into the final 2 events for the 2019 Sailing Chandlery National Circuit.

Looe will host Round 8 on October 5th and 6th with the Winter Championships at Northampton 2nd/3rd November counting for double points.

So far 60 boats have made a showing on the Circuit. It is great to see that there are a lot of boats racing over such a wide area across the country.

Nigel and Andy Bird are showing a deserved lead at present with Jon Woodward, Ann Jackson and Charles Morrish all helming a squad of Crews to make up the rest or the top 4

There is still time for a lot of place changes over the comming weeks.

Sailing Chandlery National Circuit Round 8 Looe SC

Enterprise sailors travelled from as far afield as Ogston in Derbyshire, to take part in round 8 of The Sailing Chandlery’s National Circuit, hosted by Looe Sailing Club at the weekend.

18 entries prepared for what looked like a 5 to 6 Knot light breeze day. After dying away to nothing the wind eventually settled in from the West and stayed steady around 12 knots for the remainder of the day.

With 3 National Championship winning Helms and Crews on the entry list the level of competition was intense, everyone was fighting hard for every inch over the water.

Dave and Chris Jackman Looe’s 2018 National Champions worked the conditions well and pulled out a healthy lead in the first race. Paul Hobson and Craig Wheatley, who had brought the national title back to Looe in 2019, took 2nd, with Jeremy and Lloyd Williams of Penzance SC showing their quality sailing skills taking 3rd.

Race 2 saw Dave and Chris push on again leaving the fleet to battle behind them. Paul and Craig took 2nd with Matt and Ivan Jaycock completing an all Looe Top 3.

The breeze remained steady in direction and speed for Race 3 and the conditions clearly suited Dave and Chris who made it 3 out of 3 on day one. Paul and Craig battled for 2nd and 3rd places with Matt and Ivan. Some great racing ensued with Matt and Ivan securing 2nd.

A great days racing was topped off when one of the helms chose the sail in to propose to his girlfriend who sails with him. Having sailed all day with a diamond ring tucked in his lifejacket Darren popped the question as they sailed in the river and Hayley said yes. The club members and travelling competitors and families celebrated with a great evening social where local band Division knocked out some great tunes in the Clubhouse.

The conditions pushed up a notch for Sunday with a 16 to 18 Knot North Westerly breeze providing some shifty conditions to deal with.

Paul and Craig put Dave and Chris under serious pressure for race 4 but Dave and Chris held on to make the event win theirs with a race to spare. Jeremy and Becca Stephens, 2017 National Champions, from Penzance completed the top 3 with Matt and Ivan 4th.

Race 5 saw the Breeze at its freshest and with some tired competitors heading in for an early shower the remaining 14 boats continued to race hard, this time Jeremy and Becca took the win with Matt and Ivan 2nd, Matt Rawson and Chris Keatley of Ogston and Penarth Sailing Clubs 3rd.

Well done to Dave and Chris who took the overall prize, Paul and Craig 2nd, Matt and Ivan 3rd. Tom McLaren and Dan Blewett were the first under 21 pairing, while Eloise Jaycock and Connor Langham were the first two Junior crews.

Thanks to all the Volunteers who worked so hard on and off the water to make this another classic weekend.

Enterprise 2019 Winter Championships and Sailing Chandlery National Circuit Finale

Report by Nigel Bird:

The event started with a gathering for breakfast and the rugby world cup final. After the disappointment of losing there was more disappointment as the wind had risen while we were all distracted and was unsailable. The race officer postponed, and the wind peaked and then dropped to a nice force 3-4 and the first race started at 2.30.

15 boats took to the water, Nigel and Andy Bird led for the first lap before being overtaken by Tim Sadler/ Chris Keatley and Martin Honnor/Gabe Hill on the second beat. This remained the order to the finish with Dave and Chris Jackman taking 4th place before Chris became the first casualty of the weekend, slicing his head open on the boom and therefore missing race 2.

15 boats started the second race as Steve Blackburn/ Tim Brownell had managed to repair their broken forestay and showed us all the way round, leading for most of the race and followed by the Birds, Martin and Gabe and national champions, Paul Hobson/ Craig Wheatley in 4th.

The light was fading as we sailed in and we almost needed floodlights to pack up! Northampton sailing club organised a great evening with food, bonfire, fireworks and a disco with everyone having a great time, some perhaps partied too hard!!

Sunday dawned with very little wind and not a Cornish man in sight!! Rumour has it they were clubbing until the early hours. Hobson/ Wheatley were seen on the shore, but they also were too fragile to take to the water.

So, a diminished fleet of 13 started race 3 despite the arrival of Matt Rawson/ Tom Dorr. The wind was very light and shifty with some big gains and losses over the course of the race. Steve and Tim took line honours again from the Birds who banged hard to the right on the last run making the biggest gain of the race to the dismay of the rest of the fleet who had all gone left! Martin and Gabe continued their consistent podium presence taking 3rd with Jon Woodward/ Charlotte Graham finding their form and coming in 4th.

The wind then dropped to almost nothing and we thought that might be it for the day, Jon and Charlotte were joined by Alice Allen/ James Hobson in a race for the clubhouse while the remaining 11 boats started race 4. The first leg turned into a reach and Tim/ Chris, Ann Jackson/ Alan Skeens and Ges Brown/ Julie Moore caught a zephyr and left the rest of the fleet for dead. Ges and Julie managed to overhaul Ann and Alan to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively. No one could catch Tim and Chris who took line honours.

Race 5 was started with a bit more breeze and a new course but only 8 boats as more had succumbed to the cold. The fleet split into 2 fleets of 4 with Tim and Chris taking their 3rd win of the weekend from the ever-consistent Martin and Gabe with Matt and Tom taking 3rd place.

The last race was down to the hardened core of 6 boats. The Birds caught a great shift up the first beat to lead at the windward mark from Tim and Chris and Martin and Gabe. On the first run Nick Jackson/ Laurence Dorr slipped into 2nd place and overtook the Birds up the next beat to lead to the finish with Martin and Gabe in 2nd, the Birds in 3rd and Charles Morrish/ Alison Robertson-Morrish picking up 4th spot forcing Tim and Chris into 5th.

Martin and Gabe won the overall event with their consistent performance beating Tim and Chris by one point with Nigel and Andy in third.

E20652 For Sale –

I am selling my Enterprise which I bought from the original owner in 2017. All wood, builder unknown although it is believed to be a Holt built boat.

When I picked her up she had only been sailed half a dozen times, but had been stored all here life in a garage with the covers on, so although the top cover was showing signs of deterioration when I took the cover off I couldn’t believe the condition. It was and still is as though she is just out of the builders.

Sailed maybe 20 times over the past 3 years, racing at club lever and she has proved to be very sturdy and a joy to sail.

She has 2 suits of sails, one set is a very good set of Alpha’s, the foils are in excellent condition and I have recently purchased a new cover.

Stored in a garage each winter.

She has a combi trailer and undercover and is in immaculate condition throughout. You will not be disappointed she is like a new boat!

Can be viewed at Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.

Offers around £ 1600.00
