A good club racing boat in excellent condition for its age.

Built in 1977 by Frank Johnson, kept at BCYC for a number of years current owners have had her since the summer of 2012 prior to that she had laid un used in dry storage for a few years. The current set of sails are well used for club racing, there is a spare set of sails which are in a slightly better condition.

Varnish work was stripped back on the main decks and re applied in the spring of 2013, the following spring the hull was repainted.

The boat has been well maintained and is ready to sail / race.

For sale with launching trolley will need road trailer to transport.

Covid Racing Series at Looe (Race 5)

This year has made just organising sailing activities challenging and we have all had to find new ways to get back on the water,

Enabling people to return to work safely has, quite rightly, been a priority for everyone. And we all know how challenging it has been for companies to reorganise their workplace and practices to comply with new stringent safety requirements.
Necessity being the reliable mother of invention has driven the changes required to get us back to work, shops pubs and restaurants to get our economy moving again,

Sailing on the other hand is a hobby facilitated by dedicated volunteers who, until this year, could and would give their time without having to consider risks to their own wellbeing or be accountable for ensuring the rest of us adhered to the rules and restrictions we must apply to our sport..

At Looe we have managed to get back to racing thanks to our own volunteers, And now we are over half way through our series, we realise how worthwhile the effort has been. We can socialise, at a distance while rigging and packing up and we can suffer the ridicule and humiliation hurled at us by our dedicated camera crew.

A big well done to all the clubs that have got back to sailing and especially those that have got some events back on the calendar. this Autumn.

If you have any stories, reports, pictures or vids to share then please send them in (steve_sarge@btinternet.com) and we will share them on the website, alternatively keep posting on the Facebook page so we can all see what’ going on in the Enterprise community.

Meanwhile here’s this week’s racing from Looe. The film crew advise me the ridicule is free of charge:

The Looe SC 2020 mini-series has been full of thrills, spills topped off by a final race nail biter.

Sarge & Elmo needed a top 3 finish with Darren & Natalie behind him to take the tittle, while Matt & Ivan could also overhaul Sarge if they won with Sarge spat out the back of the fleet.

With 2 races lost due to bad weather conditions it was touch and go that race 6 would go ahead while the country battened down under storm Aiden. Thankfully, the race team left the decision to the last minute and a weather window opened in the eye of the storm.

With a nasty ground swell left over from the first wave of the storm the race team got us away quickly, The Jaycocks played the left of the beat nicely to lead at the windward Mark, follow by Darren, Callum, Sarge & the Bowdlers.

While the Jaycocks enjoyed some decent space on the following reaches the rest of the fleet compressed and pressure on positions built.

On Beat 2 Darren &; Natalie kept on eye on Sarge & Elmo playing the right of the beat for a while also using the shifts well to overhaul the Jaycocks to lead out of round 2.

Just when it looked like it was a done deal Darren & Natalie clipped the mark at the end of the 3rd beat creating an opportunity for the Jaycocks, the brothers needed no invitation & took the lead for round 3.

With Callum & Connor putting pressure on Darren & Natalie. Sarge & Elmo had a glimmer of hope but were fighting their own battle with Brian & Esther. Meanwhile Simon & Jacko’s attempts to catch up saw them test the water temperature a couple of times.

The excitement ended when Darren & Nats finished 2nd with Callum & Connor 3rd, followed by Brian & Esther, Simon & Dave.

A great series had a fitting finale, Thanks to the Safety & Shore team for a COVID tight event, showing racing can happen if everyone respects the circumstances.

We can’t say when the Pies giving might be but I am sure it will be great when it happens, well it is Looe after all!

Birds fly away with Trophies at Allen 2019 Enterprise Inlands

29 ENT’s gathered at Bristol Corinthian for the Allen Inland Championships and leg 2 of the Sailing Chandlery National Circuit.

With gusts of 55mph tearing up the campsite in the morning and storm Hannah dominating the forecast, The PRO released the Enterprise and Redwing sailors for a day of socialising and sightseeing on Saturday. The decision was both correct and welcome as the high winds persisted throughout the day.

Everyone gathered in the clubhouse in the evening to enjoy the championship meal and some impromptu bar games.

Sunday morning started dry and grey with a moderate breeze. By the start of the first race everyone was up on the side with the clearing skies bringing sunshine and a strengthening south westerly breeze.

Competitors at 2019 Allen brothers Inlands

The fleet got away cleanly first time with Callum Dingle & Connor Langham taking the first leg closely followed by Matt & Ivan Jaycock 2nd, Francis Marshall & Daisy Jaycock 3rd, making it a full house for Looe Sailing Club.

A general recall for the Redwings saw them start just as the ENT fleet rounded the leeward mark. Despite some close calls, quality sailing from both fleets avoided any nasty incidents.

Matt and Francis slipped by Callum downwind with Jeremy and Becca Stephens climbing into the top 3 by round 2. The remainder of the top 10 played a game of snakes and ladders while Matt held the lead, until a gain on the left hand side saw Francis through to take race 1 from Matt followed by Jeremy in 3rd, Steve Blackburn and Timber Brownell followed By Nigel and Andy Bird completed the top 5 slots.

The wind continued to freshen for race 2 as the race team turned both fleets around smartly to make the most of the now excellent conditions.

A subtle change in the shifts saw the left side pay on the first beat which was in total contrast to Race 1. The top mark saw Tim Sadler & Chris Keatley rounding first followed by Nigel & Andy then Steve and Timber. By Lap 2 Jeremy & Becca sailed their way into the top 3 behind Tim & Nigel.

As in Race 1 the rest of the fleet continued to shuffle positions on the shifts, with Steve Sargent and Joe Jackman steadily climbing to finish 4th followed by Steve and Timber first dropping and then recovering to 5th.

Tim & Chris lead Nigel & Andy in Race 2 (Picture Courtesy Paul Pritchard BCYC

After a brief shore break and a modest course re-jig the fleets were away again. Tim and Chris again took the lead by the top mark followed by Nigel & Andy.

Jeremy & Becca battled with Steve and Timber for 3rd

The freshening shifty breeze claimed several victims both up and down wind, most notably Tim & Chris took a swim on Lap 2 handing the lead to Nigel with Jeremy securing 2nd and Steve Blackburn 3rd, Martin Honnor and Natalie Roach battled their way up to 4th followed by Francis and Daisy in 5th.

Despite Nigel’s encouragement to call it a day Charles and his race team added a lap for race 4

Nigel & Andy asserted themselves at the front of the race and the event by leading for the entire 4 rounds, despite challenges downwind by Jeremy & Becca, Dave & Chris Jackman came home 3rd with Steve & Timber 4th, Martin & Natalie 5th.

After team Bird were crowned Champions Nigel expressed his and the fleet’s appreciation for an excellent team effort from the BCYC team, both on and off the water. This was a great all round event which reminded us all how competitive and sociable the Enterprise fleet is.

Thank you to Allen brothers who sponsored the Championship.

Nigel & Andy now take the lead after what was the second round in The Sailing Chandlery National Circuit, which moves on to Leigh on Sea for Round 3 on the 18th & 19th of May.
